For me, making art is all about trying new things and exploring what is possible. I work with basic elements—fire, steel, stone, and clay—to transform raw materials into finished pieces you can see and touch.
I really appreciate the contrast within my materials. On one hand, you have the heavy resistance of forged iron and solid stone. On the other hand, you have soft clay that can be easily shaped or broken. Bringing those opposites together is my way of reflecting both the tough and the delicate parts of life.
The Materials: Fire, Earth & Stone
I focus on three primary mediums to bring my ideas to life, balancing historic traditions with my own personal style:
- Blacksmithing: I utilize traditional European forging tools and an intense fire to bend and shape heavy steel into smooth, flowing designs.
- Ceramics: I create pottery both by hand and by wheel throwing. I enjoy working with classic methods, such as rich Tenmoku glazes, wood-burning kilns, and manual hand-building techniques.
- Stone Carving: This process requires a great deal of time and patience. I work slowly to discover the smooth, natural shapes hidden inside hard blocks of stone. Many of my carving tools are forged and heat treated in my blacksmith shop.
Art and Community
I believe that creating art is a wonderful way to help people connect. For me, the creative process is not just about producing nice objects to look at—it is a purposeful way to stand against division and bring neighbors closer together.
Whether I am working on a sculpture like 'Resistance over Tyranny' or quietly throwing pottery on the wheel, my goal remains the same: to start friendly conversations and build stronger bonds between us.
